Disability

Infantile Cerepral Palsy

I have infantile cerepral palsy.

It is caused either by a lack of oxygen in the course of birth, or postnatally by meningitis. This provoked cells to die in my central nervous system.

That is the main reason why it is a big challenge for me to move my muscles in a controlled way. Sometimes there is too much muscle tension, while at other times there is too little. This affects my whole body – walking, standing, sitting, speaking, gripping and swallowing.

My disabibility doesn’t prevent me from living the life that I want to lead. Quite the contrary: I’m convinced that without any disability, I would have been a totally different person. The Kathrin who exists now, would otherwise have never been – what a pity!
